Chris Jones punches the ball out of danger in the first half against Great Britain.
Jones came up big for the Americans on several occasions in the match.
USA knocks out defending champions Great Britain through strong defensive efforts and taking advantage of offensive opportunities. Great Britain got on the board first with a hard shot from the top of the 18 yard line to Chris Jones' right deflecting off his hand and into the back of the net. However, Angel Ortiz would tie the game up shortly after with a brilliant shot from the top corner of the 18 yard box placing it in the upper right corner beating the outstretched arm of the British goalkeeper. 5 minutes later, Mike Lawson sends in a free kick from midfield to Matt Eby's head, flicking the ball over the goalkeeper to give the US a 2-1 lead entering the half.
The second half featured the strength of the US defense as they were able to hold off Great Britain's attack. The US would find the net again from a Trip Neil free kick. Neil struck the ball low and under the Great Britain wall and slotted it into the lower left corner of the goal. With a 3-1 lead and 25 minutes to go in the match, Jones came up big several times for the Americans including two shots in the final minutes. Jones continued to take control of the air, taking away any chances for Great Britain to get a free ball.
The US would advance to the Quarterfinals on goal differential with the US at an even 3 goals for and 3 goals against. Great Britain had 3 goals for and 4 goals against, thus giving them a -1 goal differential.
The win marks the first time in US Deaf Soccer history that the men's team has advanced out of group play and into the quarterfinals
